FAVORITE PLACE
The sofa is the favorite place for everyone: children, adults and, of course, pets. Therefore, it is also the place where it is easy for dirt to accumulate and even a stain appears. Faced with this problem there are very simple solutions to carry out. Sofas are made of many materials, but one of the most common is fabric. To keep them in good condition, it is important to know in depth the details about their cleaning. Today we bring you the best techniques to make it like new.
Upholstery Cleaning Process
Within the wide assortment of sofas that we can find, there are those with covers that can be washed in the washing machine. And this is the easiest, fastest and most painless way to clean a sofa. But if that is not your case, we can clean the upholstery of the sofa with natural products such as vinegar and bicarbonate.
To apply it correctly, follow these steps:
1.- Fill a container with a liter of warm water and add a glass of vinegar and a teaspoon of baking soda.
2.- Dissolve the products and moisten a clean cloth with the resulting liquid.
3.- Use this damp cloth to clean the fabric sofa. It is important to do it in circular movements, especially in the dirtiest areas or where there are stains.
4.- You have to make sure to run the cloth all over the upholstery for the solution to work.
It is important not to pour the vinegar directly on the sofa as dirt and stains will not disappear and a vinegar smell will be impregnated on the sofa.
Sodium percarbonate (or sodium percarbonate) is a compound derived from carbon that naturally cleans, deodorizes, descales, bleaches, and removes stains. It is a very practical trick if you are looking to clean a white fabric sofa, due to its bleaching properties.
Here are the steps to follow:
1.- Fill a container with a liter of warm water and add two or three tablespoons of this powerful natural stain remover.
2.- Dissolve the percarbonate in the water and dampen a clean cloth with the resulting liquid.
3.- Apply the solution on the surface of the sofa, paying special attention to the spots detected. Let the liquid act for 5-10 minutes.
4.- Scrub the sofa to remove the percarbonate. If there are remains, rinse with plenty of water and let it dry to check its effect before sitting down again.
You can find sodium percarbonate in some supermarkets, it comes in a white powder similar to bicarbonate.
Salt is another very effective natural bleach for removing grease stains.
Follow these steps to use it correctly:
1.- Squeeze three lemons and add a little salt. Mix the salt with the lemon juice so that it is dissolved.
2.- Using a clean cloth, rub the made liquid over the stain. Let it work until the stains and the rest of the dirt are removed.
3.- Remove the solution with plenty of water and let the sofa dry before using it again.
It is one of the best remedies that exist to remove sweat and blood stains from the sofa. Although it is a very effective product, you must follow these steps to avoid damaging delicate fabrics such as fabric:
1.- Mix the hydrogen peroxide in water to reduce its fizz.
2.- With a clean cloth, apply the solution all over the sofa, focusing on the areas where you detect the most dirt.
3.- Let it work for several minutes and remove the solution with a cloth dampened with water.
4.- Let it dry.
Among the different homemade tricks, there is also dry cleaning. We recommend this cleaning if your sofa is located in a very humid area or with few drafts that make drying difficult.
Follow these steps for optimal dry cleaning:
1.- First of all, vacuum the sofa fabric to remove all visible dirt (crumbs and other debris).
2.- To clean it, you can use previously mentioned products such as baking soda or a specific spray that generates foam. The idea is to apply the product without using water or wet components.
3.- Apply the solution to the stains and use a clean brush to remove any residue from the product. If there are remains, remove them with a dry cloth.
