Carpets warm the home by adding color, design and texture. However, keeping carpets looking good requires a different cleaning method than a wooden floor, for example. Vacuuming often provides the first line of defense against dirt and dirt that damage carpet fibers, but carpets also need deep, regular cleaning to maintain their best appearance.

Plan deep carpet cleaning every 3 to 7 months (or more often in high-traffic areas). If you have light-colored carpets, children, or pets, consider deep cleaning two or three times a year.

Refer to the carpet manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning. And if you don’t have it, you can follow the tips below to get the best results in cleaning your carpets. B&C Professional Carpet Care & Floor Cleaning shows you how to clean carpets with various methods, such as water extraction, dry extraction, carpet cleaners for rent and more.

HOW TO TEST COLOR STRENGTH

Before you start cleaning carpets, the first step is to try that the carpet does not distill when treating. The carpet that does not distill does not bleed, fade or change when you clean it or remove stains is the best candidate but not all are so. Depending on the solidity of the color you can decide the best method, products or carpet cleaning machines to use. Follow these steps to preview your carpet and find out if it doesn’t distill you.

1. Look for a piece of carpet or a little visible place on the floor, such as the carpet inside a closet. Vacuum the carpet.

2. Wet a cloth with the carpet cleaner or carpet stain cleaner you want to use.

3. Place the cloth on the carpet for an hour and then dry the wet area with a dry white cloth.

4. If the cloth is stained with carpet dyes. try other carpet cleaning products until you find one that doesn’t bleed the carpet sample.

KEEP IN MIND BEFORE CLEANING A CARPET

It is important to protect furniture, carpet padding and floor when cleaning carpets. Find a partner to help you remove furniture from the room where you’re going to clean the carpet.

To start cleaning, vacuum the carpet well. Treat stains or very dirty areas with the proper carpet stain removal technique for the stain type. Be careful to dry without rubbing, as this can damage the fibers on the carpet.

For deep cleaning, use a rental carpet cleaning machine if you can (if recommended by the carpet manufacturer) or hire a professional carpet cleaning team to help. If you choose a wet extraction method (see below), make sure the carpet completely dry within 24 hours to prevent mold or mildew from growing on the carpet or filling and to prevent moisture from damaging the floor below.

HOW TO CLEAN A CARPET USING A STEAMER

Most home carpet cleaning systems are water extraction units, which are also known as steam cleaners or vaporettes. They work to wash the carpet by injecting a solution into the hair of the carpet and then throwing the dirty solution back into the machine. To avoid the hassle of dragging a hose around the house, opt for a model that does not require a clean water connection. Also, choose the most powerful one you can afford to ease the burden of water extraction.

Caution: When using a steam cleaner, do not wet the carpets too much. Excessive moisture can damage the backrest and base of the carpet, causing shrinkage, discoloration and odor.

HOW TO CLEAN A CARPET USING THE DRY EXTRACTION METHOD

Other home carpet cleaning systems use a dry extraction method to wash the carpet. First, spread a dry absorbent compound over the carpet being cleaned, then scrape it with the carpet cleaning machine. Although they generally work better than steam cleaners, dry machines and chemicals are more expensive than vaporizers and wet extraction solutions.
